Although I still use the occasional floppy for transferring the odd file to another Windows 98 computer from DOS, and I very occasionally do the same with my old Iomega Zip 100 disks that can be accessed by loading a DOS driver, my main form of temporary storage is a USB Flash Drive now as burrcm has mentioned. The LS-120 "Superfloppy" came out as internal or external drives, and increased this a bit before both they and the Zip Drives were superseded by USB connections. Iomega produced the external Zip Drive that connected via the Parallel Printer Port and allowed access to 100 MB of storage on clunky "floppies", but they were plagued with mechanical failures. It was also introduced when floppy drives were the only readily available and cost effective removable drive media for storing backup data, or data to take to another computer. It was introduced when older BIOS versions imposed limitations on the maximum hard drive capacity that could be seen by the motherboard and hard drives were expensive. Disk Compression is really old-hat technology now.
